DNA Barcoding Approach: Assessing Diversity of Economically Important Anchovy on the Northern Coast of Java, Indonesia

Abstract Anchovy is one of the economically important fish in western part northern coast Central Java. The production anchovies extends along from Brebes Regency to Batang Regency. Therefore, this study aims determine diversity on Java (Brebes, Tegal, Pemalang, Batang, and Kendal), using a molecular approach. This was conducted April September 2019 Laboratory Tropical Marine Biotechnology, Faculty Fisheries Science, Universitas Diponegoro. descriptive exploratory method applied with random sampling technique, while cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene used for identification. An anchovy sample molecularly identified each region found by sampling, including BB 3, PML 2, BTG 1, 4, TGL KDL 4. base-pair length 10 samples COI amplification result 600-700 bp. sequencing alignment results BLAST analysis showed that ten were included type Encrasicholina heteroloba , Stolephorus commersoni waitei Atherinomorus sp., which ranged 98 99% similarity location. it concluded there at least four different species However, further research suggested genetic variation better fisheries management.
